Wellness at 48: Why I Reclaimed My Health Through Pilates in Maitland

By Jessica Olin, Founder of Soteria Pilates

At 48, I’ve come to understand that wellness doesn’t happen by chance; it’s something you consciously build. I’m Jessica Olin, founder of Soteria Pilates in Maitland, and my health journey over the past few years has shaped how I move, teach, and show up for the people in our studio.

Facing My Turning Point

My story really began at 42, when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Not long after, perimenopause set in, bringing a wave of changes that were hard to ignore. By 46, I was also navigating prediabetes and leaky gut syndrome, and I knew I had a choice.

I wasn’t ready to accept fatigue, joint pain, and mental fog as my new normal. I wanted a life of vibrant energy, functional strength, and clear focus, a life where I could thrive, not just cope.

Building a Holistic Approach in Maitland

That decision led me to deepen Soteria Pilates’ partnerships, including a collaboration with Alliance Regenerative Medicine and Dr. Ben Lerner in Clermont, FL. Their team focuses on hormone therapy, inflammation management, and functional medicine, giving our clients access to truly integrative care.

Together, we help members take charge of their health from the inside out, pairing the healing power of movement with evidence-based support.

Why Pilates Is Still My Anchor

At Soteria Pilates, we take a unique approach: no mirrors, no comparison, no pressure. Movement is not about perfection; it’s about connection, functionality, and sustainability.

For me, Pilates was the starting point. But to protect bone density, stabilize joints, and boost my metabolism, I’ve added strength training and fascia-informed fitness to my routine. Here’s my current formula for feeling strong, capable, and well:

  • Reformer Pilates for posture, balance, and core strength

  • Functional strength training to support hormones, bones, and joint stability

  • Gentle stretching and low-impact cardio to keep inflammation in check

This kind of smart strength doesn’t just change your body. It changes your life.

Healing from the Inside Out

Physical movement is just one piece of the puzzle. I’ve worked hard to support my internal health through:

  • Blood sugar stabilization

  • Hormone balance

  • Gut health recovery

  • Restorative sleep and stress management

  • Clean, consistent nutrition

There’s no “perfect” plan, but when you layer sustainable wellness choices over time, the results speak for themselves.
