Menopause Awareness: Why It Matters

pilates class

Menopause is a natural stage of life, yet for many women it comes with challenges that can feel overwhelming: hormonal shifts, fatigue, brain fog, changes in metabolism, decreased bone density, and sleep disruptions.

Unfortunately, menopause is often under-discussed in healthcare and under-supported in fitness. At Soteria Pilates, we believe women deserve better — movement that supports them physically, mentally, and emotionally through every season of life.

That’s why we’re excited to invite you to a special event on Friday, October 10th, from 6:30pm–7:30pm at Soteria Pilates Maitland. Dr. Kelly Frank of Frankly Pelvic DPT will be joining us to talk about Women’s Pelvic Floor Health. This conversation is especially important for women in perimenopause and menopause, when pelvic health challenges often increase. We’re proud to provide a space where movement and education come together to empower women in our community.

How Pilates Supports Women in Menopause

1. Bone Density and Osteoporosis Prevention

Pilates is weight-bearing and resistance-based. Exercises on the Reformer, Chair, and Tower use springs to strengthen bones and muscles, helping reduce the risk of osteoporosis — a key concern post-menopause.

2. Pelvic Floor and Core Support

Hormonal changes often affect bladder control and pelvic health. Pilates targets the deep core and pelvic floor muscles, improving function and reducing discomfort.

3. Hormonal Balance and Stress Relief

Mindful breathing in Pilates activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing cortisol (stress hormone) levels. This helps counteract anxiety, hot flashes, and sleep issues.

4. Supporting Joint Health

Low-impact yet highly effective, Pilates keeps joints moving without stress. Gentle rotations, spinal mobility, and fascia-informed sequences help reduce stiffness and improve range of motion.

5. Reclaiming Energy and Confidence

Many women report feeling stronger, more balanced, and more in control after committing to regular Pilates practice. Movement becomes not just exercise, but a way to reconnect to self.

Jess’s Personal Journey

Our founder, Jess Olin, is currently navigating her own path through perimenopause, autoimmune disease, pre-diabetes, and leaky gut syndrome with the support of Dr. Ben Lerner of Alliance Regenerative Medicine in Clermont.

She is openly sharing her journey on Instagram @jessicayolin, so that other women don’t feel alone in their struggles. By pairing holistic health strategies with fascia-informed Pilates, Jess is demonstrating that menopause doesn’t have to mean decline — it can be a time of empowerment and rediscovery.
